BURNS - FIRST AID TREATMENT

How to administer first aid treatment for burns and prevent further damage to your skin

This is how you can administer first aid treatment for minor burns:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Hold the burned area under cool running water for 15-20 minutes or until the pain subsides. Do not use ice or cold water, these would further damage the skin tissue
๐Ÿ‘‰If there is jewelry on the burned area like a wristwatch, ring, necklace or bracelet, or other tight items, remove them gently and quickly before the area swells. The item will be hard to remove once the area swells
๐Ÿ‘‰You can apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or aloe vera on the affected part. Do not use cream, oil, lotion or butter on the burn
๐Ÿ‘‰When blisters form, ensure you do not break them to prevent infections
๐Ÿ‘‰Once the blister breaks, clean the area gently with mild soap and water
๐Ÿ‘‰You can protect the area by covering it with a dry sterile non-stick dressing Change the dressing once a day
๐Ÿ‘‰You can take an over-the-counter pain-relieving medication which would provide some relief
๐Ÿ‘‰If you notice pus oozing from the affected area, this is a sign of infection and you should therefore see a doctor. Likewise if large blisters form and you begin to experience other symptoms like fever and increased pain, you should visit the hospital.
๐Ÿ‘‰Minor burns could take up to three weeks to heal and they can also itch. When they itch, it is a sign of healing and you should not scratch it.
